Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Civic Youth Orchestra?
A: We are a non-profit organization providing music education and performance to young musicians in the San Diego area for over 55 years. We strive to have a positive influence on our county and our young musicians.

Q: What do I wear at concerts and when is my call time?
A: Go to "Concert Attire" and you will find information on what each ensemble must wear while performing. Specific call times will be posted if known. The general rule is 45 minutes prior to a performance.

Q: Can the audience take pictures and videos during concert performances?
A: During most of our performances video and still photography are allowed, however, please do not use a flash or light and shut off all sound on your camera. Flashes and shutter clicks are very disturbing to the performers and to the rest of the audience.  The one venue we can not allow photography of any kind is in the San Diego Copley Symphony Hall. We try to arrange professional audio and video recordings of these performances for purchase after the concerts.

Q: How can I be included on your email list so I'm notified of upcoming events and changes to schedules?
A: Go to "Contact" and send us your contact information so we can add it to our database.  We need your email, phone number (cell, home), address, and what your affiliation to CYO is, such as, parent of ???, supporter, someone who enjoys classical music, etc.

Q: I am a private teacher and would like to be included on your list of available teachers. What do I have to do to be included on that list?
A: Go to "Contact" and send us your contact information. We can then add you to our database.  We need your email, web site if you have one, phone number (cell, work), address where you teach, instruments you teach, a short bio if you like, city you primarily teach in, and if you are currently teaching any of our members please let us know which ones.
